Letter from the Editor
The other day, I had an insightful conversation with my friend Jimmy about the way people perceive themselves. We divided self-awareness into three parts: the way we envision our best self, the way other people act toward us, and the person we know ourselves to be. I confided in him that perhaps the most intriguing for me is how we perceive others’ constructions of ourselves. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m curious about my social presence and I do make behavioral choices based on the effect I expect them to have on those around me.
I know, for instance, that if I tell you I laughed at our comic strip, featured on our brand new humor introduction page (p.35), you will go look at it and change your perception of me based on whether or not you also find it funny.
