Dunne and Flaherty families each make $20 million gifts for construction of two residence halls

Jimmy and Susan Dunne of New York City and Jay and Mary Flaherty of Los Angeles have each made $20 million gifts to the University of Notre Dame for the construction of two new residence halls on campus. Dunne Hall for men and Flaherty Hall for women will open this August for the 2016 fall semester.

“We are humbled by the generosity of the Dunnes and Flahertys,” said Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., the University’s president. “Residence halls are at the heart of a Notre Dame undergraduate education, and these halls will enhance that education for generations to come.”

Both new halls are located in the northeast quadrant of the campus, near the Hesburgh Library and the new McCourtney research facility. Dunne Hall is just north of Flaherty Hall. Each building is approximately 71,000 square feet, with accommodations for 226 women in Flaherty Hall and 221 men in Dunne Hall. Read more.

Download the Development App

ND Development AppThe Marketing and Communications Team has a created a new “Development” App available for your iPad!

This app includes a new and improved method of downloading App content. This new “Development” App contains all the individual Apps (or issues, as they are now called) in a single location. It is much like the Notre Dame Athletics GameDay App or any other App you get might download from the App Store.

With this initial release of the new Development content-delivery app, you will also receive a new app titled Notre Dame NOW. The Notre Dame NOW app was created for a number of development officers who requested an app that could answer the question “what’s new at Notre Dame?”

Downloading the app is a simple 2-step process:

  1. Update your “management profile” on your iPad. Click here to watch a step-by-step video that explains the process. It’s easiest if you follow along on your iPad.
  2. On your iPad, tap this link and download the ND Development App. It works best if you are connected to a strong wifi signal while downloading.

Once the app has downloaded, you’re all set to go!

If you have any questions, please call the Development help desk at x2678 or email devhelp@nd.edu.

Updated Campaign Funding Opportunities

Dome and Clouds 315x240

The campaign funding opportunities lists have been updated to the Campaign Resource Center and are now available for download. The lists are accompanied by separate matching documents with detailed descriptions of all priorities.

The funding opportunities lists have been divvied up and organized by college or school; they replace the outdated “study guides” that outlined the different campaign priorities for each University division. As such, the funding opportunities lists will be housed under the PRIORITIES folder on the Campaign Resource Guide in their respective folders.

Click here to see the different priorities folders grouped by division.

Fundraisers received a binder of these documents at the Fundraisers Meeting on Thursday, August 22, so this is nothing new—it’s just for ease of access. The funding opportunities lists are  up-to-date as of August 28. If the documents change, the documents online will be updated accordingly.

If you have any questions, contact Julia Kelly Sama at jkelly7@nd.edu or 1-1108.

Printing Those Priority Pages

STU Endowed Rectorships PPNot long from now, we’ll be able to order printed, glossy priority pages through Express Press. Until then, here’s a helpful guide to ordering any priority pages that you might need.

First, make sure you’re printing the latest version of the priority page. This is as simple as checking the folder for that priority page, because everything on the Campaign Resource Center will be up-to-date. At the Campaign Resource Center, click “PRIORITIES” to see the whole folder list.

Once you download the PDF of the priority page, you can print this in two ways:

  • If you want to show this page to a donor, have it printed professionally. To order the print through a professional printer, send them the PDF with the following instructions:
    • Full color
    • Double-sided
    • Glossy paper
    • Full bleed (this means they’ll print the page and then crop the paper so the colors run right to the edge of the paper).
  • If you just want to print it for quick reference, select File>Print as you normally would, with one key difference: make sure to select “Scale to Fit” on the print preview screen. This is important because the Priority Pages are designed for “full-bleed” printing, which is printer-speak for “colors go all the way to the edges of the paper.” Normal printers can’t do that. Instead, you can simply shrink the document so the whole thing fits neatly on one page. (Otherwise, the image won’t print correctly).

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Lin Wang, the project manager for Development Marketing and Communications, at lin.wang@nd.edu or 574-631-4961.

Augmented Reality

Aurasma

This summer, some very cool storytelling technology is coming to your smartphones and iPads.

It’s called “augmented reality,” and with the free, easy-to-download AURASMA app, anyone can make a pre-programmed photo come to life.

Here’s how to download the AURASMA app:

  1. On your smartphone or tablet, visit the App Store (for iPhones and iPads) or the Play Store (for Android devices).
  2. Search for the free Aurasma app, then download and open the app.
  3. When prompted, allow the app to access your location. Then tap the purple “Next” and “Launch” buttons as they appear.
  4. Tap the triangle icon on the bottom of the screen.
  5. Search for the University of Notre Dame’s channel by tapping the magnifying glass icon, then tapping inside the search box. Type “Notre Dame,” and then tap the “Search” button.
  6. In the upper right corner, tap “Channels,” then tap the “University of Notre Dame’s Channel,” then tap “Follow.”
  7. Tap the viewfinder frame icon to return to the camera screen.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can use it to bring photos to life. Test it out with the Summer 2013 issue of Notre Dame Magazine—and be ready to take this new tech for a spin. For questions, feel free to contact Michael Rodio at mrodio@nd.edu or directly at 1-1682.

Catholic Character Presentation

Catholic Character PresentationThe newly-updated Catholic Character presentation, a moving portrait of faith life at Notre Dame, is available on the Campaign Resource Center.

The presentation explores how Catholic faith permeates Notre Dame’s residential life, multi-disciplinary research, and global service initiatives. Whether you’re downloading the PDF (ideal for printing) or Powerpoint, you can customize the finished product for each of your contacts, so you’re presenting the most compelling slides to the right people.

Click here to view and download the Catholic Character presentations from the Campaign Resource Center.

Residence Halls Presentation

STU Residence Hall Presentation

As you know, new residence halls are major campaign priorities. A great new residence hall presentation – in both PDF and Powerpoint formats – has been created by the Development Marketing and Communications team to aid our fundraising efforts in this arena. Click here to access the new presentation from the Campaign Resource Center.

Like all our presentations, the residence hall presentation can be customized to fit your needs. But the residence hall presentation has a little extra punch: on the last page, we can “Photoshop” a prospective donor’s last name onto the architectural rendering of the new residence hall. Contact Jim Small (1-7510) if you’d like the Marketing and Communications team to make this customization.
